A cold detached garage was converted into a warm, comfortable workspace all winter with a high efficiency unit heater and code certified gas piping.
The homeowner used their detached two car garage as both a workshop and vehicle parking area throughout the year. During deep winter drops down to minus thirty degrees, frozen tools, cold concrete floors, and cold engine starts made the space almost impossible to use comfortably.
Our technician completed a heat loss calculation to determine the required heating output based on the garage volume, ceiling height, and insulation levels. We recommended an overhead forced air unit heater that mounts safely out of the way near the ceiling trusses while directing warmth down to floor level.
We installed certified black iron gas piping with a dedicated shutoff valve, vented directly through the exterior sidewall, and wired a digital wall thermostat with a low temperature freeze protection setting. The garage now stays warm and functional all winter without wasting fuel.
